TRAINME

The joint project TRAINME focuses on the initial and continuing professional development of (preservice) South African TVET lecturers and their profession- and target group-oriented development.

To this end, the Department of Vocational Education focused on Teaching Technology (BPT) at the Institute of Educational Science (IfE), University of Stuttgart, in cooperation with the Inter-Company Training Centre in Eastern Bavaria (ÜBZO) and in close coordination with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and other project partners, develops and pilots a modular training programme for TVET lecturers who are either already in service or still undergoing initial teacher education.

Within the project, (preservice) TVET lecturers are expected to further develop their disciplinary, pedagogical content, and educational competencies, design and implement guided teaching and learning arrangements, and reflect on them with scientific support. In addition, the project aims to improve lecturers' technical skills within the context of the technical equipment and learning infrastructure available in South Africa.

The pilot implementation focuses on the vocational fields of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering, while also demonstrating transferability to the vocational fields of civil engineering and automotive engineering.
