50 years of the Vocational and Business Education Section

September 26, 2024

This year's annual conference of the Vocational and Business Education Section at TU Dresden from September 16 to 18, 2024, also celebrated the section's 50th anniversary. In keeping with the occasion, the organizers had prepared an interesting and challenging program.

The BWT contributed to the success of the event with an individual presentation and a symposium.

In her contribution, Kim Méliani presented the results of a latent class analysis on the topic of students' expectations of individualized performance feedback. With regard to the overarching theme of “perspectives,” the question was discussed of how the different needs in the context of electronic examinations can be adequately addressed and what feedback potential arises in comparison to analog examinations.

Martin Kenner organized a symposium on vocational political education. Against the background of the current erosion of democratic principles and the observation that “...democracy is the only political form of society that must be learned” (Oskar Negt), vocational education is also challenged to take a stand and live up to its responsibility. In addition to Martin Kenner, Philine Krebs (University of Göttingen) and Robin Busse (TU Darmstadt) presented current research, which was then critically reflected upon by Tobias Kerner (University of Hohenheim). The conceptual considerations and empirical findings presented provide a sound basis for the urgency of vocational political education.
