[LLiS] Article on machine learning in the magazine “Max Planck Research”

February 1, 2022 / LLiS

In the second 2022 issue of the magazine Max Planck Forschung, one of the articles focuses on the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) and discusses, among other things, how Jun.-Prof. Maria Wirzberger and other researchers assess the use of AI in education.

As spokesperson of IRIS – the Interchange Forum for Reflecting on Intelligent Systems, Jun.-Prof. Maria Wirzberger emphasizes that AI systems can effectively support teaching processes, for example by creating adaptive learning materials tailored to learners’ individual needs. However, the role of the teacher as a central point of contact and motivator for learners cannot be replaced by digital systems. Instead, AI should be understood as a complementary tool that helps to design more personalized and engaging learning experiences.
