The Department of Vocational, Business, and Technical Education (BWT) conducts research and teaching across learning locations and phases, focusing on aspects of vocational training and continuing education in industrial-technical and commercial domains. In its research and transfer projects, the department focuses on issues of vocational competence measurement and learning process diagnostics in school, university, and company education contexts. It also researches the design conditions and success factors of digital and hybrid teaching, learning, and work processes, as well as the relevance of emotional and motivational qualities of experience in a vocational context. The department cooperates closely with various partners, such as ARENA2036, the Fraunhofer Institute, the Telekom Foundation, the Professional School of Education (PSE) Stuttgart-Ludwigsburg, and various companies from the automotive and supplier industries.
The department's courses cover the entire spectrum of the vocational education curriculum. Most of the courses offered are part of the B.A. Vocational Education/Technical Education and M.A. Vocational Education and Human Resource Development programs. Due to the empirical-psychometric orientation of the department, one of the focal points is on research methodology modules. The close integration of teaching and research content opens up a wide range of opportunities for students to participate in both the department's courses and research projects.
